GSA-UW Council determines the official positions of the GSA as they relate to academic and political representation of UWaterloo graduate students. Council’s operations are regulated by GSA By-Law 7.

**GSA-UW Councillor Nominations are now open!**
The GSA-UW is looking for graduate students to represent their fellow peers as a departmental councillor on the GSA-UW Council. Having one student from each department on Council ensures that all departments are being fairly represented and heard by the GSA-UW. If you are a student in any of the below departments, you can nominate yourself for the position of councilor by filling out the GSA Council Representative Nomination Form.

Winter 2026 Elections Timeline

Step 1:
Nominate yourself for the position of councillor by submitting the Councillor Nomination Form between 8:30am on Monday, January 12, until 5pm on Friday, January 23.
​
Step 2:
Starting January 23, we welcome nominees to campaign on social media to ask for a vote from their peers.
Step 3:
Students will be emailed informing them of the Council elections in their department, along with instructions on how to vote online using CampusHero. The voting period will start at 8:30 AM on Monday, January 26 and will close at 4:30 PM on Friday, February 6.

Step 4:
All candidates will be informed of the election results on Monday, February 9. Students can look to the GSA website for the announcement of election results.
​
Step 5:
The Council Speaker will reach out to elected candidates to welcome them to the Council. New councillors are expected to be prepared to participate in a mandatory councillor onboarding training session.
What is a councillor?
Councillors are appointed graduate students that connect with, represent and speak on behalf of their respective graduate department or unit at Council meetings. Councillors attend monthly GSA Council meetings, and vote on social and political actions brought forth to the committee.
