Housing

The GSA supports graduate students with housing by providing information, advocacy, and access to key resources. We offer guidance on both on- and off-campus housing options, share information about local supports, and connect students with legal consultations for tenant-related concerns. The GSA also conducts research to amplify student voices on issues such as rental costs, housing availability, and the housing needs of University of Waterloo graduate students.

Housing Support for Graduate Students

The Graduate Student Association (GSA) is committed to supporting graduate students throughout their housing journey—whether you are searching for a place to live, navigating a lease, or facing challenges as a tenant.

We provide access to reliable information, advocacy, and resources to help you make informed decisions and feel confident in your housing experience. Our support includes:

  • Guidance on on- and off-campus housing options

  • Connections to local housing supports and services

  • Access to legal information and tenant resources

  • Research and advocacy that amplifies graduate student housing needs, including rental costs and housing availability

Legal Support & Tenant Rights

The GSA partners with Waterloo Region Community Legal Services (WRCLS) to help students better understand their rights as tenants and what to expect when signing a lease.

WRCLS is a community legal clinic that provides free legal information, advice, and representation to eligible residents. They support issues related to:

  • Housing and tenant rights

  • Employment

  • Income support

  • Human rights

Speed Housemate Matching

Each term, the GSA hosts a Speed Housemate Matching event designed to help graduate students connect in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

This event gives you the opportunity to:

  • Meet potential housemates with similar lifestyles and preferences

  • Expand your network within the graduate community

  • Learn more about housing options in Waterloo

  • Find a compatible roommate for the upcoming term

Whether you are new to Waterloo or looking for a better housing fit, this event can help simplify your search.
